It’s just about that time of year again. Sure, the school kids of Lyndale Place have about a month to savor the summer of 2012 (and what a HOT one it’s been), but it’s time for the parents to start the annual back to school ritual. There are so many things to remember and take care of…
SHOPPING: Getting the supplies that school kids need each year can get expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. Many major retailers such as Sears, Target, and Walmart will be holding Back To School sales in the next few weeks. These items will likely include both school supplies and clothing so that kids can go back to school in some “new duds.” Another helpful hint would be to check “dollar stores” for the smaller supplies such as pens, notebooks, etc. Any saving is a good saving! Also, be sure to check with the Logan Square Boys & Girls Club for the possibility of receiving donated school supplies if times are a little tough for buying new supplies.
SHOTS AND PHYSICALS: Depending on the age of your child, if he or she is involved on a sports team, and what grade he/she will be entering, there may be physical examinations and vaccinations that are necessary before being able to begin the school year. Lyndale Place parents should check with their kids’ schools to see if children require a physical or if there are any necessary shots, and make sure that any needed doctor’s appointments are made before the beginning of the school year. If you and your family currently do not have a regular doctor, you can contact the Logan Square Health Center of Cook County at 773-395-7400 to schedule an appointment or check on any specials they might have for back to school physicals and immunizations.
HAIRCUTS: Every kid wants his hair to look its best when the school year starts, and JC Penney locations help make that even more possible than usual. During the month of August, all JCP stores that have hair salons will be offering free haircuts to kids from kindergarten to sixth grade age. Appointment times are going fast, so be sure to call 855-JCP-KIDS to make an appointment today. A fairly easy location to get to from Lyndale Place would be the North Riverside Mall in Riverside. From Lyndale Place, all you need to do is take a 49-Western Bus south to a 21-Cermak bus going west.
Most Chicago Public Schools begin their school year on Tuesday, September 4th. However, there are certain CPS facilities that will begin their school year on Monday, August 13th. If you are unsure as to which date your kids’ school falls under, make sure to call them to be sure so that all the kids of Lyndale Place can start the school year off on the right foot.
